| |
| It
was the final fixture in the league stages
of the competition. A draw would see both
sides progress into the knock out stages of
the competition. However, neither side had
any intention of playing for a draw in this
match. |
| |
| Leeds
FA showed their intention from the kick-off
by scoring within five seconds of the start.
Lee Jaques passed the ball forward from the
kick-off to the edge of the Heavy Woollen 18
yard box where Brad Marchant came out on top
from a strong challenge for the ball between
the goalkeeper and defender to side foot the
ball into the empty net. The perfect start
Heavy Woollen FA 0 - Leeds FA 1 |
| |
| Both
sides competed well with strong challenges
being committed. End to end football ensued
as Heavy Woollen FA looked for an equaliser
against the resolute Leeds team. On twenty
minutes Leeds almost increased their lead
through Craig Tawton who hit the post with a
shot. Leeds settled and began to control the
game through midfield where Paddy Miller and
Lee Jaques were impressing. |
| |
| Half-time:
Heavy Woollen FA 0 - Leeds FA 1 |
| |
| Leeds
again started the second half with a
purpose. Darol Lucas and Jason Kitchen
making penetrating breaks down the flanks.
Leeds increased their lead on 53 minutes
when Brad Marchant unleashed an unstoppable
35 yard shot which hit the top left hand
corner of the net. Heavy Woollen FA 0 -
Leeds FA 2 |
| |
| The
Leeds back four of Hope, Kelly, Craven and
Stripe were tremendous, dealing effectively
with the Heavy Woollen breaks. Brad Marchant
became the provider when he set up Paddy
Miller with a striking opportunity from the
outside of the box. Paddy struck the ball
powerfully into the net with a wonderful
left foot shot. Heavy Woollen FA 0 - Leeds
FA 3 |
| |
| Joe
Barber replaced the hardworking Tawton (65
mins), Byron Spink replaced Kitchen (70 mins). |
| |
| Leeds
did not let up and Paddy Miller returned the
favour with a brilliant defence splitting
through ball for Marchant to run onto.
Marchant calmly placed the ball past the
onrushing keeper to score his hatrick and
Leeds fourth. Heavy Woollen 0 - Leeds FA 4 |
| |
| Tom
Clements replaced Tom Carlisle (75 mins).
Breaks down the left from Stripe and Lucas
were proving to be effective and Leeds
should have increased their lead before the
final whistle. |

|
| |
| Leeds
began the game with purpose. As early as the
second minute Leeds took the lead. Good work
on the left hand side saw Joe Barber deliver
a through ball between the Barkston Ash
defenders for Dempsey Smith, who ran onto
the pass and placed his shot round the
onrushing keeper. |
| |
| Leeds
continued to take the game to Barkston Ash
and would have increased their lead had it
not been for two instinctive reaction saves
by the Barkston keeper who denied
efforts from Callum White and Darol Lucas.
On twenty minutes Leeds increased their lead
through the lively Dempsey. The goal came
from a Leeds corner. Chris Simpson played a
low pass from the corner to Smith who jinked
his way past two Barkston defenders and
fired his shot into the far corner of the
goal from the edge of the box. |
| |
| Leeds
were controlling the game through midfield
where Des Booth and Darol Lucus worked
tirelessly. |
| |
| Half-time:
Leeds FA 2 - Barkston Ash FA 0 |
| |
| Leeds
made an enforced change just after the
restart. Jason Kitchen replacing the injured
Callum White. Barkston Ash came out with
renewed vigour at the start of the second
period. However their efforts were well
controlled by the Leeds back four comprising
of Hope, Kelly, Craven and Melia. |
| |
| It
didn’t take long for Kitchen to make his
contribution to the Leeds efforts. On 55
minutes he broke on the right wing and
delivered a perfect cross to the back post
where Chris Simpson climbed above two
Barkston Ash players to head home the third
Leeds goal. |
| |
| On
60 minutes Leeds made further changes when
Lewis Hunter replaced the impressive Joe
Barber and Ben Hague replaced the
hardworking Darol Lucas. With five minutes
remaining Barkston Ash scored a consolation
goal following a corner where the Leeds
players lost concentration and were
penalised. |

The Team Captains

|
| |
| A
last minute equaliser snatched victory
away from Leeds in a hard fought encounter
at Huddersfield in the opening game of the
County Minor Cup |
| |
| Leeds
totally dominated the first half hour and
Chris Simpson opened the scoring with a
terrific goal off the under side of the
cross bar. |
| |
| Huddersfield
missed the chance to go level when the
Leeds keeper pulled off a superb penalty
save. |
| |
| The
home side stepped up a gear in the second
half and they were soon back on level
terms but tempers began to flare as some
fierce tackling by both sides kept the
referee busy. |
| |
| Luke
Craven restored Leeds' advantage from the
penalty spot and again Leeds took control
in the closing fifteen minutes but, with
the referee checking his watch,
Huddersfield produced another equaliser to
deny Leeds the victory with the last kick
of the game. |
